Susan Steinbacher, F.N.P.-B.C., is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. She sees patients at MidMichigan’s Heart Failure Clinic and specializes in helping heart failure patients manage their condition and maximize their quality of life.
Susan was drawn to specialize in the field of cardiology due to a family history of heart disease, which prompted her to learn about it at an early age. Her career has included work in the areas of critical care, research and community care.
Philosophy of Care
“I believe in a patient-centered collaborative approach when it comes to care,” Susan said. “I set attainable goals for my patients to optimize their wellness and quality of life.” It’s important to her that there is collaboration between her, her patients and their family members. “An active partnership between myself and my patients will result in the best outcomes.”
According to Susan, the most satisfying aspect of her work is knowing that she’s made a meaningful difference in the lives of her patients. “I enjoy the close interaction with my patients and their families,” she said. “I utilize motivational interviewing techniques to help identify mutual goals for my patients.”
Susan and her husband, Kirk, are both private pilots. In addition to flying, she also enjoys traveling, kayaking and spending time with her family and three children.
