"I want my patients to be active partners in their own health care, and I start by simply listening to them. I hear what they have to say, and together we make a plan that will work for them."

Sara Sisco, F.N.P.-B.C., M.S.N., is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, structural heart specialists, as well as vascular, thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. She sees patients at MidMichigan’s Heart Failure Clinic and specializes in helping congestive heart failure patients manage their condition and maximize their quality of life.

Sara has extensive nursing experience and has cared for patients in a variety of settings including primary care, critical care, emergency medicine, long-term care and physical rehabilitation.

“I’ve always been a nurse,” Sara said. “It started in high school when I took nurse training classes. I really enjoy caring for people, being a member of the care team and building long-lasting relationships with people.”

Philosophy of Care

Sara is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-focused health care. “I’m with patients for the long run,” she said. “My goal is to help them establish and maintain their best state of health.”

She places a high value on patient education and self-care. “Everyone looks at caring for their health differently; I will work with each patient to develop goals. We start with one thing, make progress and then move on. Step by step, one thing at a time, we can work together to meet their objectives,” Sara said.

Friendly and approachable, Sara works toward making her patients feel comfortable and confident. “Nothing is too big; nothing is too small,” she said. “I want patients to feel free to ask me anything and everything.

I love getting to know them and want them to trust me enough to share everything that impacts their health.”

For Sara, the most satisfying part of being a health care provider is being able to help people. “Whether it’s teaching patients something new that will make them healthier, or helping them through a really hard time, I know how important it is to be there for people and walk beside them each step of the way,” she said.

Sara was raised in Michigan and has lived in Gladwin for more than 20 years. She and her husband, Joe, have three children. As a family, they enjoy outdoor activities including camping and snowmobiling. In her spare time, Sara enjoys reading and gardening.
