Profile

Biography

Asha Shah, M.D., is a member of the trauma team at MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland, offering expertise in the evaluation and management of trauma patients, as well as a broad range of surgical diagnoses.

Dr. Shah is fellowship-trained and board-certified in surgical critical care, which allows her to manage complex cases both pre- and post-op. She received her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean, and completed her residency in general surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich., and her fellowship in surgical critical care at Wayne State University – Detroit Medical Center in Detroit.

“The most satisfying aspect of my work is doing something that I love – combining humanity and science,” she said. Dr. Shah also said the most exciting development in trauma is the less invasive, and even non- surgical, ways to manage trauma patients.

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Shah’s philosophy of care includes providing patient-centered care to all. “I would like to create a personal and open relationship with my patients – one that combines their needs, goals and beliefs,” she said. She has a special interest in trauma education and development of protocols, as well as global surgical outreach. “Trauma remains a leading cause of death in the United States – there is much that can be done in terms of prevention and treatment in this area,” Dr. Shah said. “Specifically, I am interested in developing and implementing evidence and guideline-based clinical care to help improve trauma outcomes.”

Dr. Shah’s hobbies include spending time with her family and husband,
Matthew, and outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and backpacking.
