Biography

Hassan Reda, M.D., is a cardiovascular surgeon with MidMichigan Physicians Group and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team at MidMichigan Health. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists, as well as vascular, cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeons.

As a cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Reda specializes in the surgical treatment of conditions and diseases affecting the heart. He treats a wide variety of conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic aneurysms and dissections, heart valve blockages and heart failure.

“I went into the field of medicine after studying mathematics in college because I wanted to find a line of work that would allow me to interact with people,” said Dr. Reda. “I chose cardiac surgery because it was a challenge similar to working with mathematics.”

Before coming to MidMichigan, Dr. Reda practiced at the University of Kentucky in Lexington where he also served as associate professor of surgery for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Philosophy of Care

“My philosophy is very simple, patient first,” said Dr. Reda. “My goal is to deliver a long lasting therapy for the problem at hand, in the safest way possible. I enjoy my work and seeing my patients go home after receiving the proper treatment.”

Special Interests and Procedures

According to Dr. Reda, the fascinating thing about cardiac surgery is that this field of medicine was forged out of sheer will by the pioneering surgeons to help cardiac patients. Additionally, it is a relatively new field when compared to the other disciplines of medicine. He is most excited about overall advances in heart protection, new options for valve replacements, and most importantly the team approach between cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. Dr. Reda has many special interests and procedures. Some of these areas include:

  • Aortic Root Surgery
  • Aortic Valve Surgery, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Atrial Fibrillation Surgery (Cox-Max IV)
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
  • Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Surgery, including Repair
  • Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Surgery
  • Thoracic Aortic Dissection Repair
  • Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVR)

In his free time, Dr. Reda enjoys cooking, playing and watching soccer, skeet shooting and downhill skiing.
