Biography
Orthopedic Surgeon Daniel L. Middleton, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon with MidMichigan Physicians Group and treats a full range of orthopedic conditions, using contemporary techniques for complex reconstruction. Dr. Middleton has a special interest in general orthopedics, fracture management and total joint replacements.
Dr. Middleton values being a resource to a rural community and sharing his skills and expertise. In order to meet these needs, he works to eliminate barriers to receiving care.
Dr. Middleton said the most satisfying part of his job is seeing a good outcome to a complicated case. “I get personal satisfaction when I see a patient heal completely,” he said. “I want to give my patients that opportunity, so I aim for 100 percent every time with every suture, screw, plate or rod.”
According to Dr. Middleton, he will always do what is best for his patients, and that can mean non-invasive approaches, as well as surgery. “If the best care means bringing in a sub-specialist, so be it,” he said. “I want the best outcomes for my patients.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Middleton is patient-focused, friendly and approachable. He believes knowledge is powerful medicine. “I educate my patients about their conditions, the process and the options available,” he said. “That knowledge gives them the opportunity to make the best choices both immediately and in the future.”
He encourages patients to be proactive. “Patients can help themselves by understanding their diagnosis,” he said. “Ask questions and take advantage of what I know. Then, together, we can develop strategies to help them improve.”
A native of Bay City, Dr. Middleton initially earned a degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University. He was committed to practicing medicine, however, and worked as a pharmacist while attending medical school.
Dr. Middleton said medicine has allowed him to give back in memorable ways. “I once did a joint replacement on my fourth grade teacher. The woman who helped shape my early education saw her efforts pay off.”
Dr. Middleton and his wife live in Midland. He has four children and is a devoted hockey dad to his younger daughter and son, both of whom play on competitive teams.
