"Every person is different, every cancer is different and even among the same tumor, no single cancer cell is the same as its counterparts; they keep evolving in space and time and we need to take that into account."
Isabelle Le, M.D., is a medical oncologist and hematologist with MidMichigan Physicians Group and is a member of the comprehensive cancer care team at MidMichigan Health. This experienced team includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, specialized surgeons, interventional radiologists, as well as breast nurse navigators, a lung cancer navigator and a genetic counselor.
Dr. Le always wanted to help people and felt there was no better way than becoming a doctor. She decided to treat adults as an internist, and then specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of the second most common cause of death in the United States, cancer. According to Dr. Le, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer at some point in their lifetime. “This is a pretty significant number of people in need of help,” said Dr. Le. “It can be our coworkers, our neighbors, our family members or ourselves – we need to do something about it.”
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Le formulates a personalized treatment plan for every patient. “Every person is different, every cancer is different and even among the same tumor, no single cancer cell is the same as its counterparts; they keep evolving in space and time and we need to take that into account,” she said. “It is important to keep pace with cancer evolution and be ready to act accordingly every time.” Dr. Le works very closely with other cancer specialists like surgeons and radiation oncologists to make sure that every cancer patient has the ideal care they deserve.
Special Interests and Procedures
Dr. Le has received vigorous training in the management of a wide variety of cancers, including breast, lung, colon, leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from leading experts in the field. She also specializes in management of common diseases of the blood, like anemia, bleeding disorders and clotting problems. Dr. Le performs diagnostic procedures like bone marrow aspirations or spinal fluid taps and she is trained in delivering chemotherapy directly in the spinal fluid, referred to as intrathecal chemotherapy.
Dr. Le has co-authored numerous research journal articles and co-presented at a variety of medical conferences.
In her free time, Dr. Le enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She also enjoys traveling with her husband.
