Biography
Graceson Kerr, P.A.-C., is a certified physician assistant with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, heart failure and structural heart specialists, as well as vascular and cardiovascular surgeons.
Graceson was drawn to the field of vascular surgery after training with a Philadelphia-based vascular team in school. “While it was my first exposure to vascular surgery, the variety of procedures and post-operative relationships with patients I was able to form were memorable,” she said. “I also was attracted to the opportunity to guide patients in maximizing their quality of life through lifestyle modifications, which is important in primary and secondary prevention of vascular disease.”
Philosophy of Care
“My philosophy of care is strongly rooted in developing a good rapport with my patients and their families,” she said. “I believe in having an open dialogue with my patients and educating them about all their options so they can make an informed decision that is best for each of them. Vascular surgery patients are often lifelong patients, so empowering them to take ownership of their health is key in their care and longevity.”
Graceson believes that building trusting relationships with open communication makes for better patient care. “Patients should feel comfortable discussing their concerns with me and asking questions,” she added. “It is also important for them to know that we work as a team to provide the best comprehensive care.”
According to Graceson, the most satisfying aspect of her work is developing a positive rapport with her patients. “These relationships will enable patients to be confident in the care they are receiving and even allow them to work towards an improved quality of life,” she said. “Knowing that I can play a role in improving a patient’s health is the driving force behind my desire to practice medicine.”
