"The most satisfying aspect of family medicine is that you are able to develop a relationship with the patients and follow them for extended periods of time."
Physician Assistant Mieke Hovey, P.A.-C., is a family medicine provider seeing patients of all ages at MidMichigan Medical Offices – Clare.
Mieke feels family medicine is one of the most important specialties, because through yearly exams and preventive medicine, many diseases can be prevented or treated in early stages
“The most satisfying aspect of family medicine is that you are able to develop a relationship with the patients and follow them for extended periods of time,” Mieke says. “It is not a specialty where you fix an illness or perform a surgery and never see them again. This allows you to provide help if there are any problems with someone’s health and to celebrate with them if they meet health goals or fight a health battle.”
Philosophy of Care
Mieke feels that family practice should be a partnership between the patient and the provider.
“I would like my patients to know that they can share any concerns about their health care with me without judgment and that we will work together to not only meet general health guidelines but also their own personal goals.”
“I would hope that patients feel comfortable asking me any questions that concern them and also to inform me of any barriers that are keeping them from improving their health,” she says. “For example, if a prescription is too expensive or they are having side effects from it, it is very important that they feel comfortable calling me and we can find alternate solutions.
With good communication, we can develop a realistic plan that will improve their overall health, including proper diet and exercise that fit into their lifestyle
“From my end, I hope to provide the patient with clear instruction and information during their appointment and direct them to further resources when necessary.”
Mieke grew up in Midland and still has extended family nearby. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Tyler; her daughter, Zoey; and her dog, Utah and likes to be outside, especially in the summer.
“I like to go up north in the summer and spend time out on the lake,” says Mieke. “I also enjoy playing tennis and reading books.”
These are the insurance plans in which this individual is a "participating provider".
This provider may accept other insurance, but your costs may be higher if they do not "participate" in your plan.
