Profile

Biography

Ashley Helwig, P.A.-C., is a physician assistant specializing in neurology. She sees patients in the Orchard Building on the campus of MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland.

Philosophy of Care

“I became interested in neurology while pursuing my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience. I had the opportunity to work with the Pedaling for Parkinson’s research team at the University of Michigan, and my love for neurology was strengthened with each class I took within the field. During a clinical rotation in PA school, I worked with neurology patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings. All of these experiences solidified that I would be happiest helping patients in the field of neurology.”

“I firmly believe in a humanistic approach to medical care that integrates the care team and the patient for treatment planning, takes into account the patient’s values and goals and truly puts patients at the center of their own care. I also incorporate evidence-based medicine to ensure that my patients are receiving the best possible care.”

“I want to create a space within my practice in which there is a shared trust and respect between myself and my patients. I want my patients to know that I will take seriously all symptoms and concerns in order to help them live their most healthy lives.”

“The most satisfying aspect of being a physician assistant is connecting with my patients and helping to make a difference in their lives.”

“I am dedicated to making strong, lasting relationships to improve care for my patients. I strive for excellence in everything I do and will work above and beyond to be the best provider I can be.”

“In terms of anticoagulation for patients with high risk of clotting and stroke, I am excited by advancements in the safety and efficacy of medications available and for new medications being tested for reversal of symptoms.”

“I am especially interested in working with patients who have progressive neurologic conditions to help them manage their conditions long term.”

“Any time that I am not working or studying, I will be outdoors, no matter the season. I enjoy hiking and snowshoeing, camping and skiing. I also have been playing the piano since I was very young and enjoy playing and practicing.”
