Dominic Femminineo, D.O., is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist (physiatrist) who provides care and treatment for patients in the RehabCentre at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot. As a physiatrist, Dr. Femminineo treats a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, nerves and spinal cord; as well as the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons.
“I have always been fascinated by human resiliency and the will to thrive, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds,” he said. “I explored nearly every other medical specialty during my training but I always found myself drawn to rehabilitation because of the personal relationships inherent in the field of recovery.”
Philosophy of Care
According to Dr. Femminineo, he believes that rehabilitation is a team sport. “My main objective is to make the patient part of the health care team and engage them in the process of recovery,” he said. “Recovery is an intensely human experience and I enjoy the bonds I make with patients on their journeys. I also like to teach, so in order to ensure that my patients are informed member of the health care team, I take time to explain all aspects of their care.”
Special Interests and Procedures
In addition to physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Femminineo is trained in electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG/NCS). “My residency program director is world-renowned for his knowledge of the electrodiagnostic medicine field and I was fortunate enough to spend hundreds of hours working elbow-to-elbow with him,” he added.
In addition to spending time with his wife and four children, he enjoys gardening and astronomy in his free time.
