Vascular Surgeon Enrique Criado, M.D., is the Chief of Vascular Surgery at MidMichigan Health and a member of MidMichigan’s comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, as well as vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons.
Before coming to MidMichigan, Dr. Criado practiced vascular surgery at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center where he served as a Professor of Vascular Surgery and Director of Endovascular Surgery. Prior to joining UMHS, Dr. Criado served as the Chief of Vascular Surgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and Director of the Vascular Surgery Training Program.
“As a vascular surgeon, I’m dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the blood vessels, including the arteries and veins,” said Dr. Criado. “I manage conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysm, carotid artery disease and peripheral arterial disease. This is achieved through a combination of diet, exercise, medication and surgical procedures.”
Philosophy of Care
“No matter what treatment is required, I try to advise and treat my patients as I would my own family. By getting to know my patients, I can effectively evaluate them before and after treatment and work with them to maximize their quality of life.”
Dr. Criado believes in taking a conservative approach toward disease management and treatment. “Surgery should not be the first step in treatment, but should follow diet, exercise and medication management,” he said. “I treat my patients as a physician first and then as a surgeon.”
