Profile

Biography

Aliya Browne, D.O., is a cardiologist with MidMichigan Health and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, heart failure and structural heart specialists, as well as vascular and cardiovascular surgeons.

As a cardiologist, she works with patients who have a variety of cardiac-related conditions such as coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, valvular and structural heart disease, congenital heart defects and other complex cardiac conditions.

According to Dr. Browne, she has always loved helping others, as well as tinkering and taking things apart. When she first began considering a career in medicine, she thought she was interested in becoming a surgeon based of her fascination with how the human body works and how the systems work together. She also considered the field of obstetrics and gynecology, but her grandmother ultimately influenced her decision to become a cardiologist.

“My grandmother died suddenly of a massive heart attack when I was 13,” said. “I had already known that I wanted to go into medicine, but this solidified my desire to choose cardiology.”

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Browne’s basic philosophy of care stands on the osteopathic tenets that the body has a capacity to naturally heal itself. “As an integrative physician, my philosophy is really based on holistic care,” she said. “This means that I believe that the mind, body and spirit are each essential elements to not only prevent disease from occurring, but also to treat it. This holistic focus allows patients to do the things that they need to do to live longer, stronger, healthier lives.”

Her goal is to create good, collaborative working relationships with her patients to ensure buy-in on the course of treatment. “It’s not about what I say, it’s about how we can work together to improve their overall health, reduce their risk and get them feeling good again,” she added. “I want to help my patients become strong enough to see and do all the things they want to do.”

According to Browne, the most satisfying aspect of her job is seeing people get it, and want to take charge of their life to make changes. “It’s very satisfying seeing someone get that ‘aha’ moment and say, I see what I’ve done wrong, I know how to fix it and I’m on the road to recovery, or on the road to prevention,” she said.

Special Interests and Procedures

Dr. Browne completed a fellowship in integrative medicine and addresses the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that effect a person’s cardiac health. She holds a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in women. Dr. Browne and her husband Reginald have three teenage children. In her spare time, she serves as a licensed minister and spiritual director. Dr. Browne writes books on faith and healing, as well as teaches ;meditation classes. She also enjoys reading and spending time outdoors.
