Philosophy of Care

“The doctor-patient relationship is all about trust and honesty,” said Dr. Billoo. “I’ve learned that if I can be patient, humble and honest, patients will trust me with their story and then I can help them better.”

“Most of my patients say I’m a very good listener and don’t try to rush through the visit. I let them speak first to understand what is going on in their lives rather than be more directive.”

“I also find it is important to bring family members into the dialogue, because then you can address other things that are happening in the home that will enable patients to take better care of themselves.”

Dr. Billoo believes that preventive, advanced care planning is a basic element of good care. “It is important for my patients to let me know their goals and preferences so that we can find a plan that works for them.”

She also feels that lifelong learning and maintaining board certification are important to provide the best care. “In internal medicine and geriatrics, things are changing every second. You can’t use past knowledge to treat your patients. You have to stay up to date with research publications and journals.”

Dr. Billoo’s pastimes include spending time with her two year old son as well as shopping and cooking.
