Biography

Michelle Ellis, M.D., is a cardiothoracic surgeon with MidMichigan Physicians Group and is a member of the comprehensive heart and vascular team at MidMichigan Health. This team includes cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons, as well as cardiovascular trained nurses.

As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Ellis specializes in the treatment of conditions and diseases affecting the heart, lungs and the major thoracic blood vessels. She treats a wide variety of conditions, including coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic aneurysms and dissections, congestive heart failure and lung cancer.

“Since heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, followed closely by lung cancer, I wanted to be able to provide a meaningfully contribution toward the care and treatment of these diseases for my patients,” said Dr. Ellis. I felt that based on the impact of these diseases to the overall population, this would be a great place to dedicate my work.”

Dr. Ellis’ clinical interests include coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), valvular heart surgery, thoracic aorta resection and repair, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and arrhythmia surgery.

She is actively involved in quality outcomes research and has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles. Her research has been presented at both regional and national professional meetings.

Philosophy of Care

“I believe in patient-centered care,” said Ellis. “I encourage my patients to take an active role in their health starting with prevention, perioperative care and throughout the recovery phase of their care. Our dedicated team of nurses, therapists, physicians and surgeons aim to provide high quality, compassionate care to each and every patient.” “I am very team focused in my approach toward medicine,” she added. “Providing the best care for my patients requires collaboration and I rely heavily on the nursing staff, physical therapists and occupational therapists to help my patients through their illness and recovery.”

Dr. Ellis specializes in a wide variety of cardiothoracic procedures including:

• Coronary artery bypass surgery
