April is Foot Health Awareness Month

Now More than Ever: Check Your Feet!

Man performing a self foot checkMany people with risk factors such as diabetes or vascular disease have been wisely limiting their travel and contact with others during the pandemic. Unfortunately, those same individuals are also at higher risk to develop non-healing wounds. This may be especially true if they getting less exercise and are more isolated from loved ones who usually help monitor their health.

During Foot Health Awareness Month, the Wound Treatment Centers at MidMichigan Health remind you to take action to prevent and detect foot problems that may lead to non-healing wounds.

Now more than ever, it is important for high-risk patients to do regular foot checks. Call your doctor if you see anything unusual such as redness, swelling, blisters, toenail problems or cuts. Early detection can prevent serious complications that could lead to amputation or even death.

Check in with those you love, and remind them to celebrate Foot Health Awareness month by doing weekly foot checks. Patients who are already being treated for non-healing wounds should also continue to keep their scheduled appointments to avoid complications that could lead to hospitalization.

If you have a non-healing wound that doesn’t go away in 30 days, don’t wait, seek specialized help. Learn how the Wound Treatment Centers can help.
