J. T Pinney, M.D.
J.T Pinney, M.D., medical director of the WellSport Program, is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. He provides sports injury evaluation, treatment and preventive care to athletes of all levels and ages through MidMichigan Health’s WellSport Program.
Dr. Pinney has practiced in sports medicine for more than 20 years. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and his certification in sports medicine from The American Academy of Family Practice. In his free time, Dr. Pinney enjoys running, skiing, biking, weight lifting and tennis.

In my role, I can help coordinate the sports injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation that will help patients return to their sport effectively.”
Daniel Diaz, D.O.
Daniel Diaz, D.O., is a family medicine physician with specialized fellowship training in non-surgical sports medicine. He provides sports injury evaluation, treatment and preventive care to athletes of all levels and ages through MidMichigan Health’s WellSport Program.
Dr. Diaz received his medical degree from A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri, and went on to complete his residency in family medicine at William Beaumont Hospital. He recently completed his fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Diaz serves as a flight surgeon in the National Guard. In his free time, he enjoys trail running, mountain biking, paddle boarding, snowboarding, and participating in ultra marathons.
“I consider exercise to be medicine and I’m passionate about encouraging and helping my patients maintain an active, healthy and happy lifestyle. The most satisfying aspect of my work is watching patients realize they can do something they didn’t think they could and seeing them take charge of their health.”
Michael Mischley, Ph.D.
Michael Mischley, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist with an emphasis in sports psychology. He provides treatment for people of all ages who find their ability to be competitive or active impaired by emotional or behavioral problems as well as training for competitive athletes.
Sports psychology helps athletes and exercise enthusiasts deal with competitive pressures and stay in their best performance zone. For people who want to regain an active lifestyle lost over time by such problems as depression, illness, or physical injury, the combination of sports psychology and other WellSport services are helpful. Dr. Mischley has worked with college, high school and middle school athletes. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Texas, Austin and completed an internship in clinical psychology with Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Dr. Mischley enjoys tennis and running. He also sails, bikes, skis and hikes with his active family.
The WellSport Team works with a other experts throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region to evaluate, manage and treat patients in the most effective and efficient manner possible. This team includes:
- Rehabilitation professionals such as athletic trainers, physical therapists and occupational therapists who have specific expertise in working with athletes and treating specific injuries.
- Orthopedic surgeons who specialize in each patient’s specific injury.
- Other specialists as needed to address conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, weight management and arthritis that can limit an athlete’s performance.
