Tests and Procedures

Electromyography (EMG)

This safe test records the electrical activity in muscles. This test is used to evaluate function of nerves and muscles. For this test, you will be lying down and a tiny, single-use sterile needle will be temporarily inserted into the muscle(s) tested. Some range of  discomfort may be experienced during this testing. This test is performed and interpreted by a neurologist.

Time
Allow up to 60 minutes

Preparation

  • You must bathe on the day of your test
  • Use no oils or lotions after bathing
  • Continue normal diet and medications (bring a list of your medications)

Neurodiagnostic tests are performed in the Neuroscience Institute, located on the fourth floor of MidMichigan Medical Offices--Midland (on the Medical Center campus, next to the hospital)

Your Results
All neurodiagnostic test results will be interpreted by a neurologist, and results will be sent to your physician. If you have any questions about your test(s), call your doctor or MidMichigan's Neurodiagnostic Testing Department at (989) 839-3547.
