Outpatient Pain Management Programs
Pain can stem from a wide variety of conditions such as injuries or strains; spine and musculoskeletal disorders; nerve damage or muscle spasms; arthritis; surgery; diseases, such as cancer; as well as metabolic problems such as diabetes. Sometimes the source of pain can even be difficult to diagnose and may seem to be without any obvious cause. While acute pain lasts only for a couple days, weeks or months, chronic pain can persist for a long extended period of time or can even be constantly reoccurring. In either case, pain can affect every aspect of a person’s life and significantly impact their overall quality of life.
Whether your pain is sharp and severe or lingering, MidMichigan’s experienced pain medicine specialists have extensive training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of all different types of pain. Our pain experts include physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians and anesthesiologists who have been board certified in the relief and/or management of pain. These specialists focus on the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of each patient, not just the elimination of their pain.
Our pain management programs utilize a variety of techniques to manage and treat pain. These include epidural steroid injections; nerve blocks; radiofrequency ablation; analgesic medications; as well as other interventional procedural techniques. In addition, our pain management specialists coordinate additional care such as physical, occupational and massage therapy, psychological therapy, acupuncture, and rehabilitation programs in order to offer patients a comprehensive treatment plan with a multidisciplinary approach. In all cases, our experienced pain management specialists use a careful history and physical examination, combined with diagnostic testing to identify the root cause of your pain and develop a customized treatment plan based on your individual needs.
