Family Grief Camp - Shepherd
Losing a loved one can be especially confusing and devastating to families with children. MidMichigan Home Care and the Children's Grief Center are partnering to present a two-hour Family Grief Camp three times a year, designed to assist bereaved families and children.
The events are designed to teach children, and the family members who are supporting them in their grief, healthy coping mechanisms in a way that is easy and fun for children to understand. It's a time to come together to share and support one another.
Family Grief Camp Goals
- Meeting others who have shared similar experiences
- Normalizing the emotional responses and reactions to grief
- Sharing stories about loved ones and feelings about loss
Our focus is on providing education about grief and loss, coping skills and strength building through fun-filled activities. Each event will have different activities such as games and arts and crafts. There will be snacks provided at each event.
Who Should Attend?
Any families who have children who have lost a loved one may attend. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend multiple events during the year. Family members may include parents, grandparents and other significant family members supporting a grieving child.
MidMichigan Home Care's bereavement coordinator, social workers and volunteers along with the staff at the Children's Grief Center will facilitate age-appropriate breakout sessions and an adult grief support session along with time for families to spend together. Those involved have the educational backgrounds and experience to assist with these sessions.
