This class focuses on essential lifesaving skills, including "hands-only" CPR for adult victims, as well as the recognition of signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke. Bystander CPR is "hands-only" and is recognized by the American Heart Association as a viable way to help someone in cardiac arrest.
Studies show that for adult patients who collapse into cardiac arrest from a heart attack, performing continuous chest compressions with no ventilations provides a survival benefit equal to that of traditional CPR. Class participants will also learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This class is open to participants 12 years and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A PowerPoint regarding heart attacks and strokes will be shown.
This course does not offer certification or a participation card.
