Suicide Prevention and Implementation: Using the Zero Suicide Framework

Presented by:
Jeannette Lia Gaggino, M.D., System Medical Director of Behavioral Health Services, Bronson Methodist Hospital

Dr. Gaggino has been with Bronson’s Rambling Road Pediatrics since 1988 and is a fellow at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and a member of the section on Developmental and Behavioral Health, and section on Adolescent Health. Dr. Gaggino is the chair of the Michigan Chapter AAP Developmental and Behavioral Health Committee and past president and past board member of the Michigan Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been a Zero Suicide faculty member since 2017 and serves as a Zero Suicide content expert. Dr. Gaggino is also an advisory board member of the Kalamazoo County Suicide Prevention Action Network.


  • Define the framework for implementing suicide prevention in a variety of patient care settings
  • Outline the 7 elements of the Zero Suicide methodology: LEAD, TRAIN, IDENTIFY, ENGAGE, TREAT, TRANSITION, and IMPROVE
  • Using case presentations, discuss suicide prevention goal setting and action plan formulation
  • Describe how the Zero Suicide modelcan fit into organization wide goals
  • Provide an update on Zero Suicide initiative at MidMichigan Health
