"The hospital has a small-town feel, but with the same technology that you’d find at a bigger institution."
I work in Ambulatory Care, so I see patients who come to the hospital on a regular basis for treatment. For patients with chronic illnesses who need regular infusion therapy, we use an IV pump to administer medications. The “smart pump” has the basic functions of an IV pump, but with a special feature that helps prevent situations like allergic reactions and drops in blood pressure.
MidMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot in Alma is a very patient-focused hospital. There’s a good nurse-to-patient ratio, which impacts the quality of care. The hospital also has a small-town feel, but with the same technology that you’d find at a bigger institution.
For the most part, we all come out of school with the same skills – so your personality and how you interact with the patients is what makes the difference. I think the Medical Center works hard to hire nurses who provide that extra compassion for patients and their families.
The feeling among the staff is that we’re a family. I think that trickles all the way down to the patients. We’re happy, and we’re working together to provide excellent care, so the patients are happy, too.
It’s people like Greg, his enthusiasm and his dedication to quality patient care that you’ll find inside MidMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot – people with skills and compassion.
