Teaching Kitchen Educational Series

Learn Practical Ways to Improve Your Overall Heart Health

Photo of a bowl shaped as a heart with fruits and vegetables in it along with a stethoscope.We are excited to announce a new virtual Teaching Kitchen Educational Series that is being offered through MidMichigan’s Heart and Vascular Center. Diet, or what we eat, has been found to be a contributing, modifiable risk factor for heart disease. Each month we will focus on a differnt topic. This free educational series is aimed at helping people learn the importance of healthy eating to improve their overall heart health. Each 90-minute class was developed by a registered dietitian nutritionist and includes both an educational component, as well as a cooking demonstration which applies the concepts presented during class.

We are especially grateful to the Allen Foundation for making this program possible. Their generosity allows us to provide these classes free of charge to patients across all the communities we serve.

This informative class is designed to provide a general overview of carbohydrates and sugars, as well as review current intake recommendations.

Participants will learn:

  • The difference between complex and simple carbohydrates
  • Added sugar versus natural sugar.
  • Learn healthier ways to prepare recipes that are typically high in carbohydrates and added sugars
