local patients have access to a new heart failure clinic within the cardiology office, as well as a wide variety of diagnostic cardiac and vascular tests through MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena. These tests include diagnostic cardiac catheterization, CT angiography, exercise and nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms (EKGs), Holter monitoring, carotid ultrasound, Doppler studies, ankle brachial index (ABI), vein mapping, arterial assessments and others.

Should more advanced cardiac treatment become necessary, a full range of interventional procedures, as well as open heart surgery, elective angioplasty and structural heart procedures are offered at MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland, named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics in 2017.

If your condition does require advanced cardiac treatment, your recovery can be completed close to home through the specialized cardiac rehabilitation program in Alpena. Home nursing care is also available locally through MidMichigan Home Care.

Heart Failure Clinic

For your convenience, Abraham Salacata, M.D., and Fawn Munro, W.H.N.P.-B.C., are now offering a Heart Failure Clinic within the Alpena Cardiology Office. MidMichigan’s Heart Failure Program was developed in collaboration with the University of Michigan and is based on best practices for treating patients suffering from heart failure. The program is designed to assist patients in monitoring responses to treatment, modifying behaviors, adjusting medications, coordinating care with their doctor or advanced practice provider, and facilitating referrals for advanced heart failure treatments.

New PAD Clinic Coming in February 2019

MidMichigan is pleased to announce that Abraham Salacata, M.D., will be starting a new PAD Clinic in February 2019. The Clinic will be held on the MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena campus in the Specialty Clinic located at 1501 W. Chisholm Street. This clinic is part of MidMichigan’s specialized PAD Program which is dedicated to the advanced management and treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD is a life threatening condition caused by the narrowing of arteries in the legs. Fatty buildup, called plaque, clings to the artery walls, restricting blood flow to the legs.
