The 32nd annual Love Light Trees ceremony and candle lighting remembrance event was celebrated at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot by employees, volunteers and community members. Nearly $4,000 has been donated thus far to the MidMichigan Health Foundation for the Love Light Trees program to support the comfort and care of patients served at the Medical Center in Gratiot.

Families enjoyed the spirit of the holidays making ornaments and getting pictures with Olaf and Else from Frozen. The hospital lobby trees were adorned by ornaments made by children from St. Louis Public Schools, Carrie Knause Early Childhood Learning Center and Kindergarten Classrooms.

Guests witnessed the Love Light Trees being lit in a comforting ceremony that included a time of reflection. Guests were greeted by MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot Volunteers. Entertainment was provided by the Heart of Michigan Chorus. Eli Hall, Director of Development of United Way of Gratiot & Isabella Counties and daughter of the late Dr. James Hall served as this year’s chair and opened the ceremony along with Pastor George Showers, of the Seville Community Church of God and volunteer chaplain of the Medical Center – Gratiot, who provided the invocation. Marita Hattem-Schiffman, president, MidMichigan Medical Center in Gratiot, Mt. Pleasant and Clare, led the illumination ceremony.

“The holidays are a particularly special time of year when we create some of our most precious memories,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, president, MidMichigan Medical Centers in Gratiot, Mt. Pleasant and Clare. “Love Lights is especially meant for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones. We hope to help those who are grieving love and honor the loss in their life while still making new memories and finding joy in the holiday season.”

Contributions to the MidMichigan Health Foundation for the Love Light Trees program in Gratiot continue to be welcomed and can be made in honor or in memory of others.
