Heart and Vascular Patients to Benefit From Grant

The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation has awarded the MidMichigan Health Foundation $36,611 to help continue the Healing Hearts (Cardiac) Support Group launched in 2015, as well as the inauguration of a new cardiac program, Heart Camp, for patients who are to undergo coronary artery bypass graft surgery at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland. These services will provide ongoing education, encouragement and information while building a network of people who share similar experiences for individuals who have experienced a significant cardiovascular event.

“Our Trustees are happy to partner with MidMichigan Health with the launch of the Heart Camp and to be a part of the continued success of Healing Hearts (Cardiac) Support Group,” said Kimberlee Baczewski, executive vice president of The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation. “Thank you to MidMichigan for providing impactful heart care programs in our region.”

Over the years, The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation has been a significant supporter of MidMichigan Health, including $1.25 million to the new Heart and Vascular Center. Other donations have created a fund to help meet the unmet medical costs for patients in financial need, acquired Gamma Knife technology and helped construct the Gerstacker Building, which serves as a base for MidMichigan’s Family Practice Center and extensive health care education program, among many others.

“How grateful we are to receive this award from The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation,” said Jennifer Felten, R.N., B.S.N., cardiac nurse specialist. “These programs align with our goal of having all of our heart services under one roof to provide an environment of seamless, coordinated care for our patients. Keeping our patients close to home, close to their loved ones and those that mean the most. We are thankful to The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation for their role in making this possible.”

After undergoing heart surgery or other heart procedures, patients face a variety of challenges and changes to their lifestyle, and are likely to have many questions regarding their post-surgical or post-procedure care. To assist them, MidMichigan implemented the Healing Hearts Support Group geared towards individuals who have had coronary bypass surgery or angioplasty. The group meets monthly and aims to provide encouragement, education and support, in addition to serving as a way for patients to meet others who have experienced similar health care situations.
