A beautiful tree illuminated the café area and another lit up the atrium area of MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena during the holiday season as part of the annual Love Light Trees event. The ceremony celebrated loved ones and was an opportunity for Medical Center leadership to thank donors who generously gave to the program in support of MidMichigan Health Foundation’s drive to help patients in the Alpena area. Chuck Sherwin, Medical Center president, served as chair of the event.
More than $5,100 was donated to the Love Light Trees program. Proceeds from the request will assist completing the breast health initiative at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena. With the new 3D mammography units, donations will help with the purchase of a 3D stereotactic biopsy table that provides faster, more comfortable procedures and superior imaging for patients.
“With stereotactic breast biopsy, a special mammography machine uses x-rays to help guide the radiologist's biopsy equipment to the site of the imaging abnormality. It is much more comfortable for the patient but most importantly, it is a very precise and accurate procedure,” according to Steve Hand, manager of imaging services. “We are grateful for the donations received to help make this possible for our patients.”
Contributions can be made year-round to the MidMichigan Health Foundation for the Love Light Trees program or the Memorial Garden in Alpena. Gifts are welcomed as a remembrance of a loved one or to honor friends. Donations can also be used to commemorate a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary.
