Area residents needing breast health care are benefitting from the efforts of the Clare High School Girls Cross Country Team.

Even during a pandemic, $300 was collected from the sale of special T-shirts that were sold at the high school during lunch hours including their homecoming week. The proceeds and remaining T-shirts were donated to the MidMichigan Health Foundation to support the Breast Health Fund at MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare.

“We decided to do our annual fundraiser even though we are going through very trying times,” said Riley Schroeder, senior member of the Clare High School Girls Cross Country Team. “Our community gives so much to us, so we wanted to do something that would give back to them.”

“We are honored that they would direct their efforts in this special way that will positively impact the lives of others,” said Caylyn Boadway, medical staff coordinator, MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare. “Their compassion and concern for the health and well-being of women is remarkable.”

“At MidMichigan Health, we encourage women to have annual health screening for many reasons,” said Becky Church, director, MidMichigan Health Foundation. “It is by donations like this that help women who have financial concerns get the treatment they need.”

The Breast Health Fund supports breast cancer prevention, screening, diagnostic testing, educational services, equipment and patient care items. This includes access for eligible individuals to receive financial assistance with screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRIs, breast biopsies, interpretation fees, post cancer surgery support materials, breast cancer genetic counseling and some transportation needs. Those interested in more information regarding this fund may call Kathleen Ludwig, coordinator for the Breast Health Program at MidMichigan Health, at (989) 837-9070.
