A sparkling array of lights illuminated the atrium at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena as the 2nd annual Love Light Trees lighting ceremony was held in early December. More than $2,000 has been donated thus far to the MidMichigan Health Foundation for the local program. Funds raised will support equipment needs and patient enhancements for the Medical Center in Alpena including 3D Mammography equipment. Recently retired nurse Debra Naylor, RN, served as the chair of the event.

The ceremony began with an open house in the Medical Center lobby where attendees were greeted by volunteers and Development Council members from the Community Outreach and Annual Support committees. Folks enjoyed holiday cookies, punch and popcorn as well as Christmas music by the Bifocal Brass. Attendees were also invited to add name tags to white dove ornaments in remembrance or honor of loved ones that were hung on a tree inside the lobby.

President Chuck Sherwin launched the formal ceremony by welcoming the crowd and paying tribute to those who were memorialized through gifts made to the Love Light Trees program. After, Naylor shared her personal experiences with loss in 2018 and emphasized the importance of quality healthcare in the Alpena area. She highlighted the benefit of upgrading the mammography equipment that will help diagnose breast cancer at earlier stages, which was made possible in part through funds donated to the Love Light Trees program. Jean Baker-Brown conducted the eighth grade choir from Thunder Bay Junior High who treated the audience to carols before all joined in for “Silent Night” culminating in the lighting of the atrium trees.

Contributions to the MidMichigan Health Foundation for the Love Light Trees program in Alpena continue to be welcomed and can be made in honor or in memory of others.
