End of Life Decision Making Focus of Annual Conference

Each year, MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland’s Spiritual Care Conference engages the community in exploring spiritual matters as they relate to health and health care. The purpose of the conference is to help meet the spiritual needs of patients and to better serve families and staff.

This year’s conference will focus on helping individuals make meaningful end of life decisions framed in both practical and spiritual terms. Through a variety of presenters, attendees will learn how clinicians determine whether a patient is capable of making decisions regarding their own medical care; practical tools to ensure that legal documents impacting quality of life are accurately completed; examples on how to discuss plans for end of life care with family and friends; key differences between spirituality and religion, and more.

The conference will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Midland Country Club, 1120 W. Andrews Rd., in Midland. The conference is free, but space is limited. Those who would like to attend may register at www.midmichigan.org/spiritualcare. Those needing assistance with registration may contact MidMichigan Health Line at (989) 837-9090. Continuing education credits will be available to physicians, nurses and social workers.

This event is made possible by the donations to the Spiritual Care Fund at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland by members of the local spiritual and church community.
