CPR and First Aid Classes Offered in Alpena

MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena is offering American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid classes for those looking to become certified or re-certified in either area. Both classes will be held at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena, in Auditorium 2 located near the cafeteria. The CPR classes will be held Saturdays from 8:30 to 11 a.m., and First Aid classes will be held Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classes will be offered September 14, October 12, November 9 and December 14.

The CPR/AED class is designed for non-clinical people looking to receive CPR certification. The classroom course teaches basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift, giving compressions and breaths as well as how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). The course provides training for anyone who wants to learn basic CPR and obtain a two-year American Heart Association Heartsaver course completion card, but is not required to have a Healthcare Provider card.

The American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid class covers first aid basics, including scene safety, finding the problem and calling for help; medical emergencies, including actions for choking, breathing problems and shock; injury emergencies, including actions for bleeding, broken bones and burns; and environmental emergencies, including actions for bites and stings and temperature and poison-related emergencies.

These courses are intended for anyone with little or no medical training, such as child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camps counselors, coaches, parents, grandparents and babysitters, who require a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. A Course Completion Card will be emailed at the end of the training.

All classes require registration and cost $40 each or combine both classes for $60. To register contact MidMichigan Health’s Education Services at (989) 356-8124. Those interested in more information on MidMichigan Health may visit
