Cardiac Catheterization Lab Renovations Complete at Gratiot

ALMA, Mich. – The Cardiac Catheterization Lab at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot was recently upgraded with the Siemens Artis Zee floor-mounted angiography system. This advanced system is designed to provide improved radiation protection for patients and staff, as well as enhanced image quality. Additional lab renovations included lead shielding, as well as the ceiling, cabinetry, flooring and temperature control system.

Procedures that can be performed at the Medical Center include diagnostic cardiac catheterizations to evaluate coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, cardiomyopthay and intracardiac shunts; peripheral vascular procedures; interventional radiology procedures; cardiac rhythm management device implantations, such as pacemakers, ICDs and loop recorders; and implantations of CardioMEMS devices for heart failure monitoring.

“This new system enables improved visualization of therapeutic devices, as well as a range of advanced 3D applications that provide greater speed and precision,” said Sunita Vadakath, M.D., F.R.C.A., M.P.A., vice president of service lines at MidMichigan Health. “The system has a large detector with a larger field of view and meets the imaging requirements of for different specialists such as vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and radiology. The system also delivers optimal image quality at the lowest radiation level, making it a safer for our patients.”

Additional heart and vascular services available at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot include TEEs, cardioversions, exercise and nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms (EKGs), Holter and event monitoring, venous doppler, carotid duplex, ABI, vein mapping, as well as arterio-venous fistula and arterial assessments.
