Annual Aliferis Memorial Race Raises Funds
MidMichigan Health Foundation’s business relations arm of the Development Council serving Alpena recently hosted the 18th annual Aliferis Memorial Race. Roughly 200 cyclists, runners and walkers of all ages from the Alpena area and across the state turned out to participate in one or more of four events, including a half marathon.
This year’s event raised over $27,072. All funds are used locally for scholarships for students studying in the field of human medicine as well as technology and patient care initiatives at MidMichigan Medical Center - Alpena, including the Cancer Center.
Honorary Chairs Chris and Sarah Morrinson, along with children Odessa and Oz, participated in running events. Sarah then passed out medals for top finishers in each event as well as trophies for overall top performances. A drawing was also held for two pairs of University of Michigan football game tickets. Race results can be found at www.midmichigan.org/race.
The Aliferis Memorial Race was named in memory of longtime Alpena General Hospital Pathologist Peter Aliferis, M.D., in appreciation of his many contributions during his 37 years at the Medical Center and his steadfast dedication to health and wellness. Dr. Aliferis retired in July 2000 and passed away from cancer March 13, 2002.
