West Branch Regional Medical Center (WBRMC) and MidMichigan Health have signed an agreement which would make WBRMC the seventh Medical Center in the MidMichigan Health system. WBRMC and MidMichigan leadership expect the affiliation to be completed by April 1, 2018. Once completed, WBRMC would become the fourth largest wholly-owned subsidiary of MidMichigan Health.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our board of trustees and the time and effort they put into the process of selecting the best affiliation partner for the hospital and communities it serves,” said Bob McGrail, chief executive officer, WBRMC. “Together with MidMichigan Health we will be stronger and in a better position to navigate the competitive and ever-changing healthcare environment.”

The affiliation process for WBRMC began in 2011. Since that time, the Medical Center in West Branch went from a government-owned facility to a private nonprofit organization, completing that process on Dec. 31, 2015. Over the next two years, the board of trustees and management then evaluated partnership proposals, met with prospective health systems and visited facilities of the prospective partners. In making a selection, the board’s goals included long term viability of the Medical Center, a proven track record of investment in the community, improved access to resources, support for physician recruitment and retention, and continued quality improvement.

In September of 2017, the WBRMC Board of Trustees voted on the selection of MidMichigan Health as the preferred health system to proceed with partnership negotiations. An extensive due-diligence process was recently completed.

“Working alongside our friends at West Branch Regional Medical Center has been nothing short of exceptional. In a rapidly changing health care environment, it’s imperative to choose the right partner to ensure patients have the highest quality in health care, physician expertise and access to state-of-the-art technology and treatment,” said Diane Postler-Slattery, Ph.D., FACHE, president and CEO, MidMichigan Health. “Together, we are committed to keeping the patients the focus of all that we do and keeping care local. This affiliation will make our organizations stronger and the communities we serve will benefit from all this collaboration provides including greater access to care and an excellent patient experience.”
