Walk-In Care in Alpena Enhanced with New Location, Extended Hours
A new Walk-In Care facility welcomes patients with minor illnesses or injuries at 199 Long Rapids Road, Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. -7 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. This replaces the walk-in service currently offered at the nearby family medicine office and also welcomes members of the public.
Patients in Alpena will now have more opportunities to receive walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries when their regular doctor is not available. MidMichigan Health is opening a new Walk-In Care facility on July 9 at 199 Long Rapids Road. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This replaces the walk-in service that currently is offered in the nearby family medicine office. Jeffery Kwiatkowski, P.A.-C., who currently provides this service in family medicine, will be moving to this new location.
The public is also welcome to use this new service, including pediatric and adult patients, regardless of whether they have a MidMichigan primary care provider.
Walk-In Care may help patients save time and money compared to using the emergency room for similar symptoms and conditions. It is intended for sudden illnesses and injuries that cannot be predicted in advance but do not require an emergency room visit, such as:
- Minor cuts and scrapes where bleeding is controlled
- Sprains or strains
- Minor burns, rashes or insect bites
- Cold or flu symptoms including coughs, sore throats and earaches
Patients who are seeking medication refills or care for chronic medical conditions should instead contact their primary care provider.
Patients are always encouraged to call their primary care provider first, before using Walk-In Care, since most practices set aside a number of same-day appointments for patients’ acute needs. The patient’s primary care office also knows their health history and can best direct them as to whether they need a scheduled appointment or whether Walk-In Care would be their best option.
