Urgent Care in Gladwin Offers “Save My Spot” Technology
Urgent Care patients in Gladwin now have the option to save their place in line electronically and spend less time in the waiting room. A new service called Save My Spot, powered by Clockwise.MD software, launched September 17 at MidMichigan Health Park – Gladwin.
To save a spot online, patients will need a mobile phone that can receive text messages. They will go to a secure online form, choose an approximate time that they want to come to Urgent Care and submit their name and mobile phone number. They will receive a tracking number indicating their current place in line and an estimated time to come to Urgent Care.
Since wait times may change due to unforeseen circumstances, automated text messages will keep patients up to date on their current place in line and when to come in. Patients will be directed to arrive 15 minutes before their estimated time so that they can complete registration.
Walk-in patients will be assigned a spot in the same electronic queue and will also receive a tracking number. They can view their current place in line and estimated arrival time on a tracking board in the waiting room. They can then choose whether to wait at Urgent Care or leave and come back 15 minutes before their estimated time.
“Save My Spot is not a guaranteed appointment time, but it helps to minimize time spent in the waiting room by keeping patients up to date on when they should arrive,” explained Corey Osborne, manager of MidMichigan’s Urgent Care locations in Gladwin and West Branch. “We will make every effort to see patients within 15 minutes of their most recent estimated time, if they arrive on time.”
“Patients are not required to save a spot before heading to Urgent Care,” Osborne said. “They can still walk in without an appointment, like they do today. However, they may be able to minimize their wait or choose a more convenient time by reserving ahead. Even those who do not have mobile phones or do not choose to reserve online may still benefit from the option to leave and come back, plus there will be fewer sick people sharing their space. It can also make waiting less frustrating by keeping patients better informed of their estimated wait time.”
Due to a newly constructed building with updated workflows, MidMichigan Health is launching this technology in Gladwin first, with plans to extend it to other Urgent Care locations over time.
