Cancer Walk Donations Benefit Susan’s Wish
Area residents will have additional resources to help cover some of the ancillary costs associated with undergoing cancer treatment thanks in part to a donation made recently by members of the Ossineke Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary recently hosted its second annual Cancer Walk in support of Susan’s Wish. The fund helps those needing extra assistance with expenses incurred during treatment including transportation, lodging and meals, particularly when travel is necessary between the Cancer Center at MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena and Michigan Medicine. “We are happy to help raise funds that directly help patients,” said Diane Ronayne, Auxiliary member and cancer survivor who delivered the monies. In just two years the walk has raised over $2,500.
Ann Diamond, development director, MidMichigan Health Foundation, was on hand to receive the funds. “The efforts of the Ossineke Auxiliary are inspiring. The spirit in which they host the walk will be appreciated by many patients in our area as well as the family and friends of Susan for whom the fund is named,” said Diamond.
Susan’s Wish Fund was established by Penny Barton in memory of daughter Susan Barton Yachcik who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2012. Susan’s wish was to help take some of the burden associated with treatment off of patients and their families.
