Daniel Diaz, D.O.
Sports Medicine Specialist
Primary Care Sports Medicine Specialist Daniel Diaz, D.O., recently joined MidMichigan Physicians Group and serves on the medical staff at MidMichigan Health. Dr. Diaz provides sports injury evaluation, treatment and preventive care to athletes of all levels and ages through MidMichigan’s WellSport Program. He currently sees patients at the WellSport office located within the Campus Ridge Building at 4401 Campus Ridge Drive, Suite 1000, in Midland. He will also see patients at the new Bay City WellSport location within MidMichigan Health Park - Bay, scheduled to open in September 2018.
Dr. Diaz received his medical degree from A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri, and went on to complete his residency in family medicine at William Beaumont Hospital. He recently completed his fellowship training in primary care sports medicine at Henry Ford Hospital.
“Being an athlete myself, I enjoy working with other like-minded patients in helping them accomplish what they’ve set out to do,” he said. “Whether it’s helping a parent play outside with their children without pain, or an athlete run a 100-mile race across the desert, I find it very rewarding to positively impact my patients’ lives. I also enjoy being able to help athletes of all ages and experience levels achieve their goals, start or maintain an active lifestyle, or improve their overall well-being through weight loss, healthier diet and movement.”
According to Dr. Diaz, motion is lotion for the body. “I consider exercise to be medicine and I’m passionate about encouraging and helping my patients maintain an active, healthy and happy lifestyle,” he said. “My goal is to work as a team with my patients to help them take charge of their health. I strive to create relationships with easy access and great communication whether through their online MyChart patient portal or by phone. The most satisfying aspect of my work is watching patients realize they can do something they didn’t think they could and seeing them take charge of their health.”
Dr. Diaz provides comprehensive sports medicine treatment including diagnostic and interventional ultrasound-guided procedures in the office. “While I’m capable of performing sports medicine procedures, I feel it’s important not to rush to procedures and surgeries but first to find the underlying cause of the problem and address that through conservative measures,” he added. His areas of special interest include endurance sports, running and cycling, overuse injuries, team physician and sports coverage, as well as mass participation event coverage.
Dr. Diaz serves as a flight surgeon in the National Guard and enjoys trail running, mountain biking, grilling, paddle boarding, snowboarding and participating in ultra-marathons.
