Sherwin Selected to Succeed Bjella as President
MidMichigan Health has announced that Chuck Sherwin has been named president of MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena effective July 1, succeeding Karmon Bjella who will retire on June 30.
Sherwin first joined the Medical Center in Alpena in 1996 and has had increasing levels of responsibility, most recently serving as chief nursing officer and vice president for business development and clinical services.
“We are pleased to have Chuck step into the role as president of the Medical Center,” said Eric Smith, chair of the MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena Board of Directors. “He has proven himself as a hospital and health system leader and his experience and skills are an ideal fit to carry us into the future.”
Sherwin holds a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Ill. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is certified in health care quality.

Active in community service and professional organizations, Sherwin is a member of the board of MidMichigan Home Care, the Alcona Health Centers, Northeast Michigan Cancer Center, Northeast Michigan Medical Control Authority, the Region 7 Trauma Network and the Rotary Club of Alpena.
“Chuck was selected for the position after an extensive national search and interviews with the Medical Center Board of Directors, medical staff, and key administrative leaders,” said Greg Rogers, executive vice president of MidMichigan Health and a member of the Medical Center – Alpena Board of Directors. “There were many well qualified candidates interested in this position, and he rose to the top. His background, talent and experience are an excellent match for the challenges and opportunities ahead of us. We are confident that he will excel as president.”
Sherwin and Shannon, his wife, reside in Alpena. They have two adult children.
