Record-Setting Blood Drive at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot A Success
During a recent blood drive at MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot, 45 people were registered and Michigan Blood collected 38 pints. In six hours, the blood drive saw 26 first-time donors, more than doubling the Medical Center’s previous highest collection. Patients served at the Medical Center use an average of 60 to 110 blood products per month.
The success can be attributed in part to employee Lyndsay Stone, who championed the blood drive by encouraging her fellow co-workers to donate. She organized a department-wide competition, with the department who had the most attempts to donate blood declared the winner.
In addition, the Alma Police Department recorded a video to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” as part of the social media “Lip Sync Challenge,” encouraging community members to attend the blood drive. The video can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/ABC12WJRT/videos/10156271810936352/.
Because the blood drive was such a success, the event was extended to the following week. In total, the blood drive collected 112 units.
