New Senior Program Helps Aging Adults Cope with Depression, Anxiety
MidMichigan Medical Center – Gladwin has announced a partnership with Senior Life Solutions to help meet the needs of adults age 65 and older struggling with depression and anxiety. Senior Life Solutions, an intensive outpatient group therapy program, will be located on the campus of the Medical Center in Gladwin in the former Urgent Care location at 609 Quarter Street. Program staff will begin seeing patients in October 2018.
“Aging brings many joys – more time with family and freedom in retirement – but our older years can also bring difficult life transitions including the loss of loved ones and stresses of age-related health concerns,” said Glenn King, R.N., vice president, MidMichigan Medical Centers in Gladwin and Clare. “The Senior Life Solutions program helps provide the tools older adults need to cope with depression and anxiety often related to aging. We feel very fortunate to partner with this program and their experienced staff that will really make a difference for those in and around our community.”
Following an individual assessment, participants meet three times per week in a supportive, encouraging group setting. The program staff includes a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed social workers, a registered nurse, and other professionals dedicated to the emotional well-being of the seniors in our community.
Individuals may benefit from the Senior Life Solutions program if they are experiencing any of the following common indicators or triggers, such as: recently experienced a traumatic event, lost a spouse or close family member, loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping, loss of energy, feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks, and/or feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness.
Family members, physicians, or other health professionals can refer individuals to the program. Those interested in more information on MidMichigan’s Senior Life Solutions program in Gladwin may call (989) 246-6339.
