Local Surgeon Appointed Councilor with Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons
Thomas Thornton, M.D., F.A.C.S.
General Surgeon Thomas Thornton, M.D., F.A.C.S., was selected as a councilor for the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (MCACS) during their annual meeting.
Dr. Thornton is employed by MidMichigan Physicians Group, and sees patients in Alpena and Lincoln. He will serve two three-year terms alongside five other councilors representing the State. Dr. Thornton is the only councilor from a rural hospital. The councilors meet quarterly with the governing council to discuss the business of the American College of Surgeons at the state level, and organize the annual scientific meeting of the MCACS held each spring.
Dr. Thornton received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital. He has advanced training in surgical treatment of conditions and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, colon, gallbladder, hernia repairs and treats disease involving the skin, breast and soft tissue. In addition to these general surgery procedures, he also treats thyroid and parathyroid disease, thyroid modules and cancer.
