John Murphy, D.O.
Orthopedic Surgeon John Murphy, D.O., is now offering patient appointments at his new satellite office at MidMichigan Health Park – Bay, located at 3051 Kiesel Road (Bangor Township) in Bay City.
Dr. Murphy completed his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. During his residency, he completed specialized training in sports medicine and total joint arthroplasty, including sports-related injuries and joint replacements. Dr. Murphy completed additional training in hand surgery at Port Huron Hospital; trauma surgery at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas; and pediatric orthopedics at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery.
For seven years, Dr. Murphy played professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals before entering the medical field in 1992. He currently serves as MidMichigan Health’s musculoskeletal service line chief and is responsible for ensuring the highest quality and consistency of orthopedic and rehabilitation care. Dr. Murphy also serves as the orthopedics team physician with the Great Lakes Loons.
“Playing professional baseball was a dream come true, yet not a career that could last a lifetime,” he said. “Like most athletes, I experienced injuries during my career. As a result, I realized how valuable the right care is in order to recuperate as fully as possible. Orthopedic medicine seemed a logical next step.”
Dr. Murphy specializes in joint replacements, outpatient knee replacement surgery, ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, conditions of the musculoskeletal system, as well as sports-related injuries.
