She’s Found a Great Community Through Volunteering
Wendy High’s favorite part about volunteering in the Gift Shop at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland is having so many friends, and helping people find the perfect gift for their loved ones
When Wendy High retired after working for 38 years as a registered nurse, she decided to volunteer to give back and help her community. For the last five years, she’s been volunteering in the MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland Gift Shop.
During her first year as a volunteer, High was invited to become a gift shop buyer due to her experience in retail. She quickly accepted the offer. “I love it,” she said. “It takes time but I like retail, and it’s really fun.” High is responsible for buying clothes and purses for the Gift Shop.
“My favorite part about volunteering is having so many friends, finding the right gift for loved ones in the hospital and being creative,” she said. High also enjoys delivering flowers to patients and seeing their delight and excitement.
The Gift Shop team is made up of “a great community and wonderful friends,” High said. She encourages anyone who is looking to become more social, meet new people and give back to the community to give volunteering at MidMichigan a try.
