Experienced General and Trauma Surgeon Joins Trauma Team
Asha Shah, M.D.
General and Trauma Surgeon Asha Shah, M.D., recently joined the trauma team at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland, offering expertise in the evaluation and management of trauma patients, as well as a broad range of surgical diagnoses.
She has a special interest in trauma education and development of protocols, as well as global surgical outreach. “Trauma remains a leading cause of death in the United States – there is much that can be done in terms of prevention and treatment in this area,” Dr. Shah said. “Specifically, I am interested in developing and implementing evidence- and guideline-based clinical care to help improve trauma outcomes.”
Dr. Shah is fellowship-trained and board certified in surgical critical care, which allows her to manage complex cases both pre- and post-op. She received her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean, and completed her residency in general surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich., and her fellowship in surgical critical care at Wayne State University – Detroit Medical Center in Detroit.
“The most satisfying aspect of my work is doing something that I love – combining humanity and science,” Dr. Shah said. “I would like to create a personal and open relationship with my patients – one that combines their needs, goals and beliefs.
“No matter what treatment is required, I try to advise and treat my patients as I would my own family,” Dr. Shah said on her philosophy of care. “By getting to know my patients, I can effectively evaluate them before and after treatment and work with them to maximize their quality of life.”
Dr. Shah is currently welcoming new patients at her office in Midland. Appointments may be made by calling his office at (989) 839-1795. Those who would like more information about Dr. Shah may visit www.midmichigan.org/shah.
