Hord Coplan Macht, the Baltimore, Maryland firm responsible for the facility design along with Three Rivers Corporation, the architect of record and construction manager of Midland, was recently honored by Healthcare Design Magazine, recognizing the Heart and Vascular Center as one of the “best design projects” of 2018.

Earning Honorable Mention, the cardiovascular center will improve hospital operations by integrating service lines and supporting a holistic approach to patient care.

“What an outstanding recognition for Hord Coplan Macht to receive from this publication, along and all those working so very hard on this project for the region. The design of this new state-of-the-art facility was carefully chosen and reviewed with the patient in mind,” said Cardiovascular Service Line Chief William Felten, M.D., F.A.C.C. “The proximity of services for our patients will also improve workflow efficiencies, communication and care delivery for our health care providers and staff. But, more importantly, it keeps our patients close to home, close to their loved ones and those that mean the most.”

The three-story, $45 million, 170,000 square-foot building, to be located at the corner of Sugnet Road and Orchard Drive, is expected to open in 2020. The facility will include not only the new Heart and Vascular Center, but also ambulatory services spaces, combining clinical departments and providing room for future expansion. The building features a modern design with soaring roofs and a three-story glass atrium, as well as multiple levels of garden spaces both inside and outside, providing places of respite and access to nature throughout the facility.

The Healthcare Design Showcase awards program is now in its 18th year of honoring the very best design and architecture in the health care industry. Seventeen jurors, appointed by the partner organizations (The Center for Health Design, IIDA, and ASID), evaluated this year’s project submissions.

Midland’s Heart and Vascular Center was designed by Hord Coplan Macht in partnership with Three Rivers Corporation, architect of record and construction manager of the project. More than 300 construction jobs, drawing from local and regional talent, are expected for the project.
