Center for Women’s Health Re-Certified as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence
The dedicated team at MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland’s Center for Women’s Health offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland’s Center for Women’s Health has recently been re-certified as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence by the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers (NQMBC™). MidMichigan is the only breast health program in the Great Lakes Bay Region to achieve this level of certification, and is now one of only two Certified Quality Breast Centers of Excellence in the state of Michigan. This certification is the highest level that a breast health center can achieve, and recognizes a center’s quality performance as meeting quality standards criteria.
The Center for Women’s Health offers a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. A comprehensive team, including a dedicated female breast surgeon, breast cancer and breast imaging nurse navigators, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, a breast imaging fellowship-trained radiologist, physical therapists, nurses and social workers, work with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan, evaluating progress along the way.
Our breast health team is truly dedicated to providing excellent patient care, and this achievement is just one way of recognizing that,” said Joan Herbert, Pharm.D., director of oncology services for MidMichigan Health. “Patients receiving treatment at our facility can expect to receive full-service care, from screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship support and everything in between. Our team works collaboratively together to develop individual treatment plans for each patient to ensure that they are receiving the type of care that is best suited to their needs.”
The Center for Women’s Health offers a variety of breast health and women’s health services, including advanced imaging technology such as digital and 3-D mammography (also known as tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, breast MRI and stereotactic, ultrasound and MRI breast biopsy modalities. The state-of-the-art facility is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology, American College of Surgeons and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
The National Quality Measures for Breast Centers™ was developed in 2005 as a quality initiative program of the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC). The NCBC promotes excellence in breast health care for the general public through a network of diverse professionals dedicated to the active exchange of ideas and resources. It serves as an informational resource and provides support services to those delivering care to people with breast diseases through educational programs, newsletters, a national directory and patient forums. The National Quality Measures for Breast Centers™ reflect more than 11 years of work, which has culminated in the adoption of 33 National Quality Indicators™. The Center for Women’s Health designation as a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence recognizes the center’s commitment to meeting these indicators by delivering high-quality breast care.
