Each year at the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce dinner, an area business or organization is recognized for their leadership in promoting positive lifestyle choices and offering innovative health programs to their employees. MidMichigan Health Foundation’s Business Relations Committee serving Alpena presented the 2017 Health Leadership award to LafargeHolcim on February 8, 2018.
“This year, LafargeHolcim’s Alpena and Presque Isle plants were awarded for their commitment to employee health and wellness,” said Ann Diamond, development director, MidMichigan Health Foundation. “They have excelled in offering staff a wide variety of programming and incentives that are win-wins for both the individual’s personal health and team productivity. This approach to health in the workplace is certainly supported by the Medical Center, and we are happy to recognize them for it.”
As an organization, LafargeHolcim offers employees flu shots, first aid and CPR training, exercise programs, stand up desks, health and wellness screenings, a nutrition program with online coaching, a smoking cessation program, HSA contributions, paternity leave, a “Get Active” program with incentives and prizes, and health and family safety days. Additionally, the Presque Isle plant hosts the 5K Quarry Run every summer. This type of healthy employee engagement promotes good habits that are life-long and extend out into the community at large.
This marked the 23rd year of presenting the Health Leadership Award to a deserving organization. The MidMichigan Health Foundation’s Business Relations Committee is chaired by JoAnn Dehring of First Federal of Northern Michigan.
