Neurologist Surendra Kaul, M.D. to Retire in December
After nearly 60 years in the field of medicine, beginning with admission to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College in Indore, MP, India, in 1956, Neurologist Surendra Kaul, M.D. will retire at the end of 2017. Of these years, 40 were spent in Midland practicing neurology, pediatric neurology, and sleep disorders medicine. His last day of seeing patients will be December 29, 2017. He will continue his current practice schedule until that time.
Dr. Kaul completed M.D. and residency in M.Y. Hospital, Indore, MP, India (1956-1965). After migrating to the United States in 1967 he completed another round of residency and fellowship in Neurology at Harvard, (Children’s Hospital in Boston), Upstate Medical Centre, Syracuse and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre in New York. He was on the faculty of Neuroscience and Pediatrics at the New Jersey College of Medicine for several years before moving to Midland in 1978. He also trained in sleep disorders at Henry Ford. He is board certified in neurology and also sleep disorders medicine, and has been the medical director of the Sleep Center at the Medical Center in Midland since its inception.
“The field of neuroscience has grown in technological wealth with the advent of imaging, molecular biology, and neurophysiological advances,” said Dr. Kaul. “We have been lucky to have MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland and MidMichigan Health’s support in providing us with such technologies to keep pace with other institutions. However, clinical exam of the patient still occupies an upper seat in diagnosing an ailment.”
“I have had a long and rewarding career in which I have had the blessing of helping patients and serving my community,” said Dr Kaul. “I will truly miss my patients who taught me so much, my colleagues, and my staff at MidMichigan Health. I am looking forward to spending time with family.”
Patients, the public and colleagues will have an opportunity to say farewell to Dr Kaul and his staff at an open house, Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 1:30 to 5 p.m., at his office at the Midland Professional Suites, 555 West Wackerly St. Suite 3625, Midland.
