Cross Country Team Supporting Area Residents Needing Breast Health Care

Area residents needing breast health care are benefitting from the efforts of the Clare High School Girls Cross Country Team.

More than $600 was collected from the sale of special T-shirts that were sold at the high school during lunch hours including their homecoming week. The proceeds were donated to the MidMichigan Health Foundation to support the Breast Health Fund at MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare.

“We decided to do this fundraiser because our community gives so much to us, so we wanted to do something that would give back to them,” said Olivia Haring, co-captain of the Clare High School Girls Cross Country Team. “That’s why we wanted to donate the money to our community hospital instead of somewhere big like St. Jude’s Hospital or cancer research.”

“We are honored that they would direct their efforts in this special way that will positively impact the lives of others,” said Christina McDowell, supervisor of Imaging Services, MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare. “This community should be so proud of these girls who have the compassion to do this.”

The Breast Health Fund supports breast cancer prevention, screening, diagnostic testing, educational services, equipment and patient care items. This includes access for eligible individuals to receive financial assistance with screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRIs, breast biopsies, interpretation fees, post cancer surgery support materials, breast cancer genetic counseling and some transportation needs.
